Event Bingo

What every bingo square means

A baseball bingo card is dealt at random from the 92 squares below, and every one of them is marked automatically from the live play-by-play — nothing to tap, nothing to claim. These are the rules the system actually applies, written from the code that applies them, so a square fires when this sentence is true and not otherwise.

“Pending” is not “missed”.

A few squares cannot be judged until something finishes — “Game ends on a strikeout” is not wrong in the third inning, it is unknowable. Those show as Pending on your card until the moment they can be decided, and they are flagged below.

1-2-3 from the pen

A relief pitcher throws a 1-2-3 half-inning — three batters, three outs, all by him.

A double!

Any batter hits a double. Reaching second on an error or a fielder’s choice does not count — it has to be scored a double.

A five-run lead at some point

Either team leads by five runs or more at some point.

A lead is held from the first run to the lastpending until the final out

Whoever scored first was never behind at any point afterwards. Pending until the final out.

A team bats around (9+ batters in a half-inning)

A team sends nine or more batters to the plate in one half-inning — batting around.

A team collects two doubles

One team collects two doubles across the game.

Back-to-back hits

Two hits in a row, by batters who followed one another in the same half-inning.

Back-to-back homers

Two home runs in a row, by batters who followed one another in the same half-inning.

Back-to-back walks

Two walks in a row, by batters who followed one another in the same half-inning. An intentional walk counts.

Bases loaded

The bases are loaded at any point.

Bases-loaded escape

A pitcher loads the bases and gets out of the half-inning without a run scoring.

Both starters reach five strikeouts

Both starting pitchers reach five strikeouts each.

Both teams go deep

Both teams hit at least one home run.

Both teams on the board

Both teams score at least one run.

Both teams score in the same inning

Both teams score in the same inning — runs in the top and the bottom of one inning.

Bullpen gets the K

A relief pitcher records a strikeout — a strikeout by either starter does not count.

Bullpen parade (3+ pitchers in one half-inning)

Three or more pitchers appear in a single half-inning.

Called strike three ends the inning

The third out of a half-inning is a called strike three — taken, not swung at.

Caught looking

A batter strikes out looking: the third strike is called, not swung at.

Caught stealing

A runner is thrown out attempting to steal a base.

Comeback (trail by 3+, then tie or lead)

A team trails by three runs or more and then draws level or goes ahead.

Costly mistake

An error is charged on any play.

Double play ends the inning

A double play is the third out of a half-inning.

Double-digit Ks (one pitcher reaches 10)

Any one pitcher reaches ten strikeouts.

Eight-pitch battle

A single at-bat lasting eight pitches or more.

Extra baseball

The game goes to extra innings — any play happens in the tenth or beyond.

First-inning fireworks

A run is driven in during the first inning, by either team.

First-pitch knock

A batter gets a hit on the first pitch of his at-bat.

Five-run inning

Any half-inning in which a team scores five or more runs.

Four hits in one half-inning

Four or more hits in a single half-inning.

Four-run inning

Any half-inning in which a team scores four or more runs.

Free run

A run is forced in by a walk with the bases loaded.

Full-count walk

A batter walks after the count reached 3 balls and 2 strikes at any point in the at-bat.

Game ends on a strikeoutpending until the final out

The very last play of the game is a strikeout. Pending until the final out — it is not false in the third inning, it is unknowable.

Going deep

Any home run, by either team.

Grand slam

A home run with the bases loaded — four runs driven in.

Hit by pitch

A batter is hit by a pitch and awarded first base.

Hit, walk and a strikeout all in one half-inning

A hit, a walk and a strikeout all happen inside one half-inning.

Late lead change

The lead changes hands late in the game.

Leadoff hit

The first batter of any half-inning gets a hit.

Leadoff man aboard (any way)

The first batter of any half-inning reaches base — hit, walk, error, hit by pitch, any way at all.

Leadoff walk

The first batter of any half-inning draws a walk.

Marathon inning (30+ pitches in a half)

A half-inning in which one side throws thirty pitches or more.

Passed ball

A passed ball is charged to the catcher.

Perfect frame

A half-inning of three batters, three outs, nobody reaching base.

Picked off

A runner is picked off — put out by a throw to the base he was standing on.

Pinch hitter appears

A pinch hitter comes to the plate for either side.

Pinch-hit knock

A pinch hitter gets a hit.

Quick work (half-inning on 10 pitches or fewer)

A half-inning completed on ten pitches or fewer.

Reliever enters mid-inning

More than one pitcher throws in the same half-inning — a reliever comes in mid-inning.

Runner stranded at third

A half-inning ends with a runner left standing on third.

Runners on the corners

Runners on first and third with second base empty — the corners, as the term is actually used. Bases loaded is a different event and has its own square.

Sacrifice bunt

A sacrifice bunt — the batter gives himself up to move a runner along.

Sacrifice fly

A sacrifice fly — a fly ball caught for an out that scores a runner.

Scoreless first inningpending until the first inning is over

Neither team scores in the first inning. This one cannot be judged until the first inning is over, so it sits as Pending until then.

Seven-pitch at-bat

A single at-bat lasting seven pitches or more.

Shutout through fivepending until the fifth inning is over

One team is held scoreless through five innings. Pending until the fifth is complete.

Six and counting (a pitcher reaches 6 K)

Any one pitcher reaches six strikeouts.

Solo shot

A home run with nobody on — exactly one run driven in.

Starter goes six

A starting pitcher is still on the mound in the sixth inning.

Stolen base

A runner steals a base and is credited with it.

Stranded in scoring position

A half-inning ends with a runner left on second or third.

Strike out the side

A pitcher strikes out all three batters he faces in a half-inning.

Strikeout ends the threat

The third out of a half-inning is a strikeout, with at least one runner on base at the time.

Strikeout number eight

Any one pitcher reaches eight strikeouts.

Take the lead

A team that was not ahead takes the lead.

Take your base (IBB)

A batter is intentionally walked — put on base on purpose.

Ten hits for one team

One team reaches ten hits in the game.

Three pitches, sit down

A strikeout on exactly three pitches.

Three straight hits

Three hits in a row, by three batters who followed one another in the same half-inning.

Three straight strikeouts (consecutive batters)

Three strikeouts in a row, by three batters who followed one another in the same half-inning.

Three walks in one half-inning

Three or more walks issued in a single half-inning.

Three-bagger

Any batter hits a triple — three bases on his own hit, no error involved.

Three-hit night

Any one batter finishes with three or more hits.

Three-run homer

A home run that drives in exactly three.

Three-run inning

Any half-inning in which a team scores three or more runs.

Thrown out at the plate

A runner is thrown out at home plate trying to score.

Tie it up

A team that was behind ties the game up.

Tied after six inningspending until the sixth inning is over

The game is level at the end of the sixth inning. Pending until the sixth is complete.

Turn two

Any double play — two outs recorded on one batted ball.

Two on, nobody out

Two or more runners on base with nobody out.

Two RBI night

Any one batter drives in two or more runs across the game.

Two-hit night

Any one batter finishes the game with two or more hits.

Two-homer night

Any one batter hits two or more home runs.

Two-out hit

A hit with two already out in the half-inning.

Two-out rally (2+ runs scored with two outs)

Two or more runs score in one half-inning after the second out.

Two-out RBI

A run is driven in with two already out.

Two-run homer

A home run that drives in exactly two.

Two-run inning

Any half-inning in which a team scores two or more runs.

Walk-off homer

A walk-off that is a home run.

Walk-off win

The home team wins with the run that ends the game — a walk-off.

Wild pitch

A wild pitch is charged to the pitcher, letting a runner advance.
